"An enlightening, fun read – for both men and women! Women will love the lifestyle tips about personality and fashion and men will gain tremendous insight into the modern woman's psyche."

Connie Podesta
Professional Speaker, author: Making a Fortune Selling to Women

"Women who want to be leaders today often buy into the wrong definition of leadership. It is filled with masculine behavior and imagery. In reality, the evolving and new definition of leadership encompasses both masculine and feminine traits. As women, we no longer need to check our feminine selves at the business door. Karen and Meredith McCullough do a wonderful job capturing this in Gwen. Your inner Gwen puts this all in perspective. Allow her vulnerability, femininity and receptivity guide you as a leader in the 21st century."

Laura Lopez
author: The Connected and Committed Leader: Lessons from Home. Results at Work.

"This amazing mother-daughter team has taken the characteristics of the modern woman and defined them out loud and with humor for all of us to enjoy. They provide a platform for us to look within and re-imagine who we can be as our best selves. As an entrepreneur, I for one will be tapping my inner-Donna moving forward!"

"I have always been such a “Kate”! But learned from The Seven Women Project that I am also “Hanna” and “Donna”, and now is the time to let my “Sophie” out. Since learning about The Seven Women, I have been able to use this within my own interior design business by identifying who each of my clients are and expressing that style through their homes."

"After reading The Seven Women Project I reorganized my closet into Seven Sections. (ok, six because Hanna got a drawer) – My husband was nice enough to agree to use the closet in the guest room. I loved the book!"

Kim Healy

"Reading The Seven Woman Project inspired me to reclaim and celebrate parts of myself that I had forgotten or misunderstood. It deepened my appreciation for the variety of all the special women in my life and the way we continuously change and re-invent ourselves"

Desiree Rumbaugh
Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor

"The Seven Women Project takes the reader on a delightful journey of nurturing self-discovery – to find her voice, her soul and her spirit. Along the way, she comes face-to-face with the charming, yet incongruent, parts of herself and learns to appreciate the unique and complex woman she has become. She is introduced to all of the strengths she has and learns when and how best to draw upon on each and every one of them! The Seven Women Project gives her permission to boldly embrace her own authenticity with newfound joy and freedom. Truly, a beautiful sight to behold!"

Beverly Denver
Editor & Publisher
Houston Woman Magazine

"The Seven Women Project is full of personality and fun. While reading the book I was hoping Karen and Meredith would come over and coach the team of women within me, but by the end, I had taken some notes and created a plan that I hope to execute on my own. The Seven Women Project is a great resource and even a guide for balance in our lives. This book acknowledges that women are called to wear many hats, the trick is knowing when to switch over...and then wearing the right hat with style!"

Aurelie Gallagher Krauss
CEO (and mother of 3)
Irish Eyes Design

"Funny, poignant and very entertaining, this book celebrates the multi-faceted nature of women. It gives new meaning to the belief that “we are not alone!” The Seven Women Project has provided me with a better understanding of myself and just as important, more insight into the women whose paths cross mine on a daily basis."

The Seven Women Project
Celebrates women and calculates a new formula for success: multiply "You" by SEVEN in work, play, and dress

Ten years ago, nationally recognized keynote business speaker, Karen McCullough set out to write a book about women, success, and what she had learned from her experiences behind the dressing room doors as the owner of four Houston-based retail clothing stores. She thought it would be easy. Then she started to collaborate with her Gen X daughter, Meredith, and the real adventure began. The results of this cross-generational endeavor are captured in The Seven Women Project: Your Personal Guides to Success in Work, Life and Dress (Released May 2010 by Willard St. Publishers)

In their first book, this mother-daughter team go beyond the dressing room to boldly assert that inside every woman there are seven women, each with an abundant reserve of strength, talent, passion, knowledge, female ingenuity, and fashion sense. Karen McCullough is a Houston woman at heart. After all, this is the city where she launched a  career as a small business owner, where she years later reinvented herself as a national public speaker, and ultimately where she hatched an explosive theory about the extraordinary nature of women that is the basis for her first book. Now, this successful local entrepreneur-turned keynote speaker-turned recently published author, is bringing it all home. She is ready to celebrate, and she is inviting Houston women to the party.

Ten years ago, McCullough decided to write a book about women, success, and what she had seen behind the dressing room doors. She thought it would be easy. She thought she would do it alone. Then she started to collaborate with her Gen X daughter, Meredith, and the real adventure began. The results of this cross-generational experiment are captured in The Seven Women Project: Your Personal Guides to Success in Work, Life and Dress (Willard St. Publishers 2010). In The Seven Women Project, this mother-daughter team boldly assert that inside every woman there are seven women, each with an abundant reserve of strength, talent, passion, knowledge, female ingenuity and fashion sense. It’s an entire team of vibrant women, each ready to help navigate, coach success and boost the happiness quotient in an increasingly complex and demanding world.

Back in 2002, McCullough hosted a show at the Houston Junior League called Seven Women on the Runway. This was the beginning of her book idea and her interactive event married her love of fashion with her passion entertaining and celebrating women; in this case by showcasing “real women on the runway.” Her daughter introduced her that night, and even joined the models on the catwalk.

This Thursday the McCullough women reveal just how far things have come, and they do it close to home. The first official Seven Women Project Book Launch and Cocktail Party will be held April 29 from 5 – 8 p.m. right back where it all started at the Junior League (811 Briar Oaks Lane). Admission is $25 in advance ($35 at the door) and includes a copy of the book, and free parking!

What has changed? The women of The Seven Women Project have evolved over the years. At the event, readers will be able to learn a little bit more about what makes each of the women tick, and hopefully catch a glimpse, or even reclaim, parts of themselves that they may have previously forgotten or misunderstood. Women will have the opportunity to celebrate the women within, whether its Classic Kate (the overachiever in each of us), Zenful Zoë (our inner spirit and connection  to something greater), Dramatic Donna (our confident, powerful voice), Hanging Out Hanna (our lovable inner slacker), Trendy Trudy (the ageless spirit inside us who keeps us young and with it), Girly Girl Gwen (our fabulous feminine, radiant leader) or Super Sophia (the wise, evolved woman in each of us who knows how to realize our true potential)

What is the same? The McCullough knack for honoring local businessmen and women, building a community of fun-loving, fashion-savvy folks, and shopping is as strong as ever. For this event, McCullough has invited local vendors to showcase the personalities and preferences of each of the seven women. This means classy jewelry from Sela Designs for Kate; colorful sports and yoga gear from Lululemon for Zoë; outrageously exciting fashions from It’s All About You-Kirwood for Donna; beautiful Seven Women note cards for Hanna, make-overs from Vanity Salon for Gwen it's Bliss on 19th Street, and the Seven Women bracelet featured on the front cover of the book for Sophia.

“We wanted to capture the spirit of the first show, with all the excitement, audience participation and just plain fun,” explained McCullough. “At the same time, we hope to introduce our new readers to the new dimensions of each of the women and encourage all of us to look inside and get acquainted with the amazing women we all have as part of ourselves.”

If that isn’t enough there will also be hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and a short program featuring Q&A with the authors and a digital short highlighting the history of the book, by the books graphic designer Mike Svat. Spoiler alert: The film includes original footage taken by Alice Webb of the first show. Participants are also asked to bring photos of themselves, so they can become a part of the action.

If the launch party at the Junior League caters more to Karen McCullough’s Baby Boomer fan base, there is a whole second event that may appeal to Meredith McCullough’s Gen X cohorts, or even the illusive Gen Y crew. The second launch will be held Sunday May 2 at the Nouveau Antique Art Bar (2913 Main Street) from 4 – 7 p.m. Tickets for this event are $10 in advance ($15.00 at the door).

The Seven Women Project  will be available on Amazon starting May 5, 2010. Tickets for the book launch events are available online $25 for the Junior League and $10 for the Art Bar, or at the door ($35/$15 respectively). For the Junior League event, a book is included in purchase price. Karen McCullough is a nationally known keynote speaker who has studied human behavior, work place trends and branding. Meredith McCullough is a technology and policy consultant and yoga instructor in Washington DC who has worked with women and women’s groups since 1995.
